I'm a freelance Scottish artist with a love of horses and nature. I first began sketching and painting horses when I was working on a Thoroughbred Arabian stud farm in Germany. I had the privilege of caring for 5 stallions, around 20 mares and anything up to 40 foals and yearlings. I worked with the horses by day and drew them by night. I sold my sketches and began taking commissions.
Once I'd completed my apprenticeship, I continued to work in Germany for Princess Fuerstenberg, at her Arabian training stables. During this time the family were holding a display of paintings and heirlooms at the palace, and I was kindly given my own wee corner beside the masters.
After 5 years in Germany, I had built up an impressive portfolio of equine portraiture commissions. When I returned to Scotland I took a job as a graphic layout artist in Edinburgh. I enjoyed this work but it was always my ambition to become a traditional artist. When the company I worked for was sold and I unexpectedly became redundant I seized the opportunity to take fate into my own hands and pursue my dream of becoming an artist.
In addition to my portraiture, I enjoy painting the Scottish countryside and local places of historical interest. Iím often to be found on the banks of Loch Voil, Balquhidder, or in the middle of some old woodland or field taking photographs and sketches.
Please feel free to get in touch if you would like to commission a portrait or if you have any comments or questions about my work.
